Please please PLEASE pray for and send good energy to my 9 year old Sheltland Sheepdog Welby!  I woke up this morning to find that she was falling down all over the place when she tried to walk due to the fact that she could not use one of her hind legs.  Mama & I rushed her over to the vet where they took x-rays of her spine (Thank goodness for the kind lady that let us take her spot on the waiting list, I am very grateful for that gesture) and told us that she has a major problem with a disk in her spine.  They sent us over to another vet that is a surgeon (thank goodness the vet was in today or we would have to drive ALL the way to one that works at A&M) and, after looking at the x-rays, determined that it would probably be best to put her on a drug cocktail and confine her (extreme bed rest) for the next three days.  If she still isn’t better at the end of three days or if at any time she gets worse the surgeon will have to operate on her spine. 

The procedure is called a partial hemilaminectomy and basically what happens is that the surgeon will remove piece(s) of the vertebra in the spine to get at the compressed disc(s), he will then remove the disc material causing the problem(s).  Please pray/send good energy so that it doesn’t resort to surgery… It’s incredibly expensive (to the tune of 2-3 thousand dollars) and involves a lot of time and patience to heal…for both dog and owner.  I would have to do certain exercises (physical therapy) with Welby’s legs to get them strong enough for her to walk again after she’s had all her healing bed rest.  I love my dog so much, she’s my baby, my heart, my soul.  Other than this she is in excellent health… I can’t do without her right now, and I will do anything to help her.
